Does your organization use motor vehicles to transport athletes, spectators or others? If so, it is essential for risk management planning to make sure that such vehicles are fully insured in compliance with applicable law. It is a good idea to talk with your insurance agent or broker about the insurance policies that have been purchased in order to ensure that there is sufficient coverage.

Congratulations to Nohr Sports Risk Management, LLC, principal, Katharine M. Nohr, who, on April 14, 2012, was awarded the Insurance Professional of the Year Award for Region VIII, by the International Association of Insurance Professionals.

Katharine will be speaking at the upcoming Conference on Law, Policy and the Olympic Movement at Ithaca College London in May 2012 on "Scandals, Accidents and Injuries: Risk Management and Legal Issues in the Modern Olympic Games."

USA Triathlon, like many national governing bodies of sport provide multi-sports race directors the opportunity to sanction their events for a fee in return for insurance, use of USAT branding, liability waiver form, risk management expertise, inclusion of their race in the athlete ranking system, use of USAT Competitive Rules and enforcement by certified officials, access to educational opportunities and race director certification, and more. What puzzles me is why any race director of a multi-sport race would choose to go it alone without this sanction.
